Q 3. Regarding cultural relativity and "universal human rights"....just because anthropologists work within the approach of cultural relativity (i.e. not judging other cultures based on one's own norms, values, etc.), this does not necessarily imply that there are NO universal rights vs. wrongs. Consider female circumcision also known as "female genital mutilation", which is briefly described on page 93, also mentioned in my second powerpoint. Please offer your well-informed opinion on this matter: is this cultural practice a violation of basic human rights of girls and woman?

Female genital mutilation is a very old practice where female genitals are mutilated through a kind of ritual. Although it is not clear when and where this cultural practice first started but it can be seen even in the 5000 years old Egyptian mummies. In ancient times it was being used to stop women from masturbation hysteric behavior. There are various types of female genital mutilation but the 4 main types are removal of the clitoris, the second type is removal of labia minora which is the inner folds of female genitals (sometimes labia majora) along with removal of clitoris.
